About Yarn

Yarn is a child theme for Saga, a theme for writers from Theme Hybrid. Stripped to the bare essentials, it features big, bold images to draw the reader into your content.

Yarn (yärn): a long or rambling story, especially one that is implausible

By default, the background color is set to chocolate brown (#352922), the header text is set to a tan brown (#b6a999) and the menu and primary colors are pink (#eb9f9f).

The headline, byline and quote font is Playfair Display, a stylish serif font, in bold and the body text is Lato, an easy-to-read sans-serif font. Both fonts are available at Google fonts.

Using the WordPress customizer, you can:

  • change the background color
  • add a background image
  • change the header text color
  • change the header icon
  • add a header image
  • change the menu color
  • change the primary (link) color
  • preview your changes before publishing
Featured Images

Yarn features big, bold featured images to draw the reader into the content. Your featured image needs to be at least 1100 pixels wide to be displayed on the blog index page.

Menus & Sidebars

Yarn has one, mobile-ready menu, which is discreetly hidden behind the menu button until needed. Add your social network links to the menu and Yarn will automatically add their icons. The theme does not support sidebars.

Yarn, like its parent theme, is responsive. It looks good on computers, tablets, and cellphones alike.

Plugins

Saga uses the Subtitles plugin by Philip Arthur Moore for subtitles. It also integrates with Justin Tadlock’s Custom Background Extended and Custom Header Extended for custom-per-post backgrounds and headers. Yarn, too, plays nice with these plugins—though there are no default backgrounds or header images. Download and install these plugins to use them with Yarn.

Because Yarn is a child theme, you must also install it’s parent theme: Saga.

You can download this theme at Theme Hybrid, home to more awesome free themes. Support is available at Theme Hybrid. Yarn has been submitted to WordPress.org for review and will also be available there once it’s approved.
